Diamond Care
To maintain the brilliance of your diamond engagement or wedding rings, it's important to clean them properly based on their setting style. For prong and cathedral settings, you can safely soak your jewelry in a solution of mild dish soap and warm water for up to 30 minutes. However, for pavé or basket settings, extended soaking may loosen the smaller stones—so limit soaking time or clean with extra care.
To clean:
1 Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water
2 Soak the jewelry for a few minutes
3 Use a soft cloth or cotton swab to gently clean the metal (gold, platinum, or silver)
4 Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a soft cloth
5 Repeat if needed, but always handle your jewelry gently

For an extra sparkle, you may briefly dip the diamond (not the metal) in window cleaner. Since glass cleaners can contain harsh chemicals, limit soaking time to under a minute, and never use this method on rhodium-plated jewelry. Afterward, rinse the piece in your dish soap solution again, then dry completely. To remove dirt trapped between prongs or around the diamond, you can use a toothpick—carefully, to avoid shifting any prongs or scratching the metal. If fibers get caught in the setting, use tweezers gently to extract them. Although diamonds themselves are extremely hard and can only be scratched by other diamonds, the metals they’re set in (like gold or platinum) are much softer and can scratch easily. Take special care during cleaning. Ionic cleaners are safe for most diamond jewelry, but avoid them if your ring includes other gemstones, as the electrical current may damage softer stones. When storing diamond jewelry, keep each piece separate to avoid scratches. Diamonds can damage other jewelry—and each other—if they come into contact. Store pieces in individual pouches or compartments to preserve their beauty.
